The Joy Of Reading

Devoured any good books lately?

– Oh, hi everyone! We is doing our reading.
– We's reading a BOOK.

– Mommy says books is good!
– I give 'dis one a thumbs up...

– ... because it's positively delicious!
– I think 'dis prolly not what "books is good" means Nate. *sigh*

These two were being so playful and cute during story time today I had to grab the camera and snap a few pics. This book is one of their favorites – it's a Touchy-Feely book called That's Not My Baby with lots of different textures to explore and a mirror at the end so they can see the "baby" that belongs to mommy. That mirror never fails to get everyone's attention, but I guess the part Nate likes best is the flavor

– Well, hello there. We is alone at last.

– Don't care what anyone says. You is delicious.

– Scrumptious even.

Don't forget to jump on over to our YouTube™ page to see the boys' adventures with their book in action. I love the end frame especially:

Sometimes The Pictures Just Choose Themselves

Well, after the last post, let's just clear a few things up:

All present and accounted for. Good!

Now that we have that out of the way...

Yesterday I thought I would put the boys in these cute outfits I bought on my last mission to try to keep ahead of them in the "clothes that fit" department. I figured they would still be pretty big on Nate and Seth and it would be sort of cute and funny to take some pics of them floating around in their spacious jammies – but they are not so spacious actually as it turns out.

*sigh*

These babies just keep growing, but I digress...

One of the hardest parts of taking baby pictures is trying to decide which ones to post out of 20 or 30-odd photos. I thought this was a pretty nice shot:

I like the way Seth looks all casual resting on his elbow. Or, maybe this one where both the boys are sitting up a bit more:

Or this one where...

Oh. Well then. I think we have a winner, don't you?

Nate's expression pretty much sums it up:

– Dat was really stinkeroo, Seth.
– Yup. Oh wait – was that me? Well, you know what they say: if you can't barf on your brother...

Of course, I had to add a new category because of this: Instant Classic. Because, you know, it just sort of is.

Life Lessons With Nate & Seth: Hurt Babies Make Mommy Cry

First: Everyone is OK.

Second: There is no guilt like mommy guilt – period.

Third: This was entirely a life lesson for me.

Here's what happened:

It was Saturday night and M. had already changed Seth. I had just taken Nate into the nursery to get him ready for bed before their nighttime feeding when I noticed a hair (very likely one of mine) loosely wrapped around one of his toes. I reached down quickly to remove it and in an instant all I was holding was a piece of the hair that snapped off – the rest was suddenly coiled around Nate's toe so tightly that it started swelling immediately. In less than two seconds that coil of hair had virtually disappeared between the puffiness on either side.

And then it started to bleed. : (

My poor baby! He was crying so hard, and I get a big, fat fail for what happened next because I was not a calm, cool mommy at all. I was a scared, shaky, quivering mess!

I scooped up Nate and yelled for M. – who fortunately was a pretty collected daddy – and he managed to fish out the hair that was cutting off the circulation to Nate's wee toe. I thought only the sight of my own blood freaked me out that badly, but apparently the sight of my baby's blood does the same thing. I'm really going to need to grow a much thicker skin before my babies start running around and the scrapes and bruises start or I'm never going to make it.

Here are some pics I took the next day. You can still see how deeply that piece of hair cut in. : (

Of course, Nate was fine almost right away and hasn't made any complaints since. I, on the other hand, am continuing to slather his wee toe in Polysporin and thinking about how I spent too long baking those ten perfect toes to lose one. I swear I thought it was going to pop right off.

Ugh. Mommy guilt is the worst.

Our First Photoshoot: 2 Days Old

We're still waiting to receive hard copies of the photos we had taken at the hospital, but I managed to snag these off the photographer's site in the meantime. Nate was really not into the whole experience – if he wasn't sleeping he was crying. He cries real tears too so it was all rather pathetic. I think they got this shot between sobs:

Clearly he was a pretty tough customer. Seth, on the other hand, appears to love having his picture taken:

And this was the shot that made us want to throw lots and lots of money at the photographer:

Nate is asleep and Seth is having a fine time latching onto his big brother's shoulder. And check out all those toes:

TOES!!!
