A Very Important Message

Two of them actually from Saturday and I'd better get this posted before the babies start speaking in complete sentences (which is likely next week at this rate).

Seth said to tell you all, "Whoa! Ay!" and Nate wants you to know, "Eye! Eye!" – although I suppose it's equally possible he meant the pronoun "I" since the babies haven't quite mastered spelling yet, much less homonyms. I guess we'll have to get to work on that.

In the meantime, there you have it – two very important (not to mention deep) messages from Seth and Nate. Ponder their declarations at your leisure and take from them what you will.

Bath Day

It is no small thing when they who are so fresh from God love us.

– Charles Dickens

Fresh from God and the kitchen sink too because it was bath day at our house. It's no easy feat bathing babies and trying to snap pics even if you have very good babies who like a bath – although I guess they'd be pretty poor Aquarians if they didn't like the water. I hope that doesn't change.

I will be a little sad though when we have to give up bath time in the sink and graduate to the baby bath we bought, but I think we still have some room to grow before that happens – it's a bigger than average sink after all and my babies are still peanuts.

Seth was a little squirmy today so his pics are pre-bath:

Nate on the other hand was quite placid before and during:

... and I love the soapy head (even if he is a little out of focus):

And in case you didn't know, there's nothing like cuddle time with freshly scrubbed babies. We had lots. Yum! : )

Life Lessons With Nate & Seth: Priorities

Being a new mommy is hard work and being a new mommy to twins is – at times – very literally double the hard work. There's precious little time for anything other than their care and comfort, so you have to learn to have patience with the things that can wait. Like cleaning. And feeding yourself. And wearing something other than pajamas. Etc. and Etc. again. The list, of course, goes on.

I wasn't having the best morning I'll admit.

And then this happened:

Sorry for the grainy pictures, but the sun was barely up, the boys had just finished breakfast and I was in the process of transferring them from their Boppy's to their bouncers, when I went to pick up Seth and saw the biggest smile on his face. It had diminished a little by the time I grabbed a camera (also said camera was a tad distracting), but there's still some little grins going on here (and a big one too!).

After I carried him over to the bouncers, I looked down and there was Nate, also full of smiles. You can tell he thought the camera was great fun since his grin just kept getting bigger and bigger.

And seeing them both so happy for no particular reason – just because – made my whole day in those few moments. Everything else can wait.

Since You Asked... Mini-Me

After I posted M's baby picture on his b-day I've had a few requests to post some of my own. Seth so clearly takes after his daddy, and I see a lot of myself in Nate – but I'll let you be the judge.

Me @ 4 months:

And @ 16 months (with my hair up in curlers gettin' my hair-do on):

More Easter Awesome

Two other people were also very excited about meeting Nate and Seth on Easter Monday and couldn't wait to take their turn holding the boys – my babies' cousins, Simone and Maxine. Both of the girls were so gentle with my little ones and you can see how peaceful the babies look in the pics. And of course, everyone is so adorable.

Little Maxine who is only 4 is suddenly so grown-up and kept asking in her sweet voice if she could hold one of the babies, so we got her all set up in the big armchair and placed Nate in her arms. They were both quite content for the longest time and Maxine was such a good big cousin doting on him and giving him kisses. She even helped me change him later!

Simone had it all under control with Seth and even gave her grandma some pointers on soothing him. Whatever she was doing, it was clearly working since he's down for the count and I really don't recall him sleeping at all during our visit other than when she was holding him.

And speaking of sleeping, thanks to everyone who coddled, cooed at and otherwise kept my babies awake and entertained so well that afternoon and evening. Really, thank you. We fed the boys when we got home that night, put them to bed around 10:30 and they slept right through until 6:15 the next morning! Yes, they actually slept through the night for the very first time. I couldn't believe my eyes the next morning when I heard a bit of fussing and looked at the clock. It's the longest stretch of sleep I've had since probably my 7th month of pregnancy and it was bliss.

I hope it's the beginning of a trend. : )

An Awesome Moment

I can't tell you how much I would love to have my Gram meet and hold my boys or how much she would love it as well. Every story she hears about them brings her so much delight and even though she has many, many great-grandchildren I know mine are special to her, simply because they are mine.

Unfortunately she lives at the other end of the country and we are in no position to travel with two small babies – but if we were, I know great-grandma Veronica would be every bit as thrilled as M's Grandma Bea was at Easter when she got to meet her great-grandsons for the first time.

It is no small statement when I say this was an awesome moment – what an amazing thing to see such joy and peace on her face holding both my boys on her lap.

Nate proved to be quite a handful though...

... so it was exit stage left for a walkabout with his daddy while Seth enjoyed some extra cuddles.

Just awesome, all of it.

Just Chillin'

I couldn't not grab a camera and snap a quick pic of Nate striking a chill pose during a nap Monday morning. He drifted off so quickly after breakfast that he's still wearing his burp cloth. You can also see the blanket that's rolled up behind his wee head because we are working on correcting his plagiocephaly – or in non-medical speak, "baby flathead". Yes, it's really called that.

Nate's head came out of the womb with a flat spot due to space being rather tight, but it's gotten more noticeable since then. I was planning to ask our pediatrician about it at our last visit when she inquired if he normally favours turning his head to the left. I said I hadn't noticed, but observing him after we got home that day – and looking back at EVERY SINGLE POST I've made with pictures of Nate – of course it's true.

Oops.

The doctor gave us some literature which recommends using a rolled up blanket or towel to position a baby's body and head to the less favoured side, but Nate is a Houdini-in-training so it doesn't take him long to reposition himself in the crib. It was clear we needed a better solution, so last weekend we picked up an infant sleep positioner for him to use at night. During the day in his bouncer or Boppy the rolled up blanket works pretty well though. He doesn't love it, but you'd never know from looking at that picture.
