Just Chillin'

I couldn't not grab a camera and snap a quick pic of Nate striking a chill pose during a nap Monday morning. He drifted off so quickly after breakfast that he's still wearing his burp cloth. You can also see the blanket that's rolled up behind his wee head because we are working on correcting his plagiocephaly – or in non-medical speak, "baby flathead". Yes, it's really called that.

Nate's head came out of the womb with a flat spot due to space being rather tight, but it's gotten more noticeable since then. I was planning to ask our pediatrician about it at our last visit when she inquired if he normally favours turning his head to the left. I said I hadn't noticed, but observing him after we got home that day – and looking back at EVERY SINGLE POST I've made with pictures of Nate – of course it's true.

Oops.

The doctor gave us some literature which recommends using a rolled up blanket or towel to position a baby's body and head to the less favoured side, but Nate is a Houdini-in-training so it doesn't take him long to reposition himself in the crib. It was clear we needed a better solution, so last weekend we picked up an infant sleep positioner for him to use at night. During the day in his bouncer or Boppy the rolled up blanket works pretty well though. He doesn't love it, but you'd never know from looking at that picture.
